Preventive care: Take charge of your health

Regular doctor visits are vital for early detection, risk management, and overall health. Most men, however, tend to avoid routine medical care.

This reluctance to check in with providers often means a missed opportunity to detect a chronic condition early, when they are easier and more affordable to treat.

Men over 50 should have annual physicals, while those under 50 should see their primary provider every three to five years.

Screenings help identify several conditions, including colon cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. Check with your provider to see which screenings are appropriate for your age and medical history.

Prioritizing regular health checkups is critical for early detection, avoiding costly complications, and supporting overall wellness. Regular contact with a primary care provider allows men to be proactive in managing their health and leading happy, productive lives.
